Northmoor Estate - Manchester

This proposal forms part of a multi-million pound regeneration scheme in the urban district of Northmoor. The area contains a number of through roads and has much on street parking. There are few recreational facilities for children.

The North moor scheme is the largest pilot scheme, the proposals are large scale and radical. The plan is to make an area wide 20mph zone with Home Zones located within this. The Home Zone streets are to be radically re-designed, houses are to be demolished to provide pedestrian links and create court yards for play and social activities, some buildings will be re-designed to increase the height and provide better accommodation. The traffic calming features will reduce sight lines and speed whilst increasing and re-designing parking provision. There is a strong focus on Play facilities and community art.

The whole scheme has been broken down into three phases, the first is due to start on site in May 2000 with the final phase to be completed by July 2002. The finance has come from a wide variety of sources, Single Regeneration Budget, Housing Investment Program, Local Transport plan, and Manchester Methodist Housing Association. Phase one is budgeted at £795,000, Phase two, £369.000 And phase three at £927,000. A total around £2.1 million pounds.
